Eka Global wins SIES SOP President’s Award for Chitale Bakarwadi Trays

It’s our privilege to announce that Eka Pak Global (India) Pvt Ltd received SIES School of Packaging “President’s Award for Aesthetics & Sustainability” 2022 for the development of High Barrier Re-closable trays with Easy Peel Lid Film for Chitale Bakarwadi.

Eka Global (formerly Printpack Asia) is a pioneer in High Barrier trays and has been recognized to commercialize Modified Atmosphere Packaging for Indian Ethnic Sweets. Our technology has enabled Indian Ethnic Sweets to go beyond the halwai shops and reach broader domestic and international markets.

Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale, one of the largest manufacturers of Ethnic Sweets & Namkeen in India, was facing a challenger for their leading product Bakarwadi (crispy and spicy spring rolls). Earlier packed in standup pouches, the distribution resulted in a lot of breakage and limited shelf life. The pouches were not stackable and had limited shelf appeal. Also, the brand owner faced a challenge of look-alike products in the market.

This is where Eka Global collaborated closely with Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale to develop an innovative patented package. The main features of this package are providing longer shelf life while avoiding breakage of the product, unique hologram easy peel lid film eliminating counterfeit products. The re-closable lid design combined with the seal inside to separate sealing and lid locking, keeps the product fresh during consumption period even after the seal is opened providing consumer delight. The attractive decoration adds to excellent premium branding and our containers are sustainable and recyclable as per IS:14534 supporting the goal of a circular economy. The new Tray package is helping take Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale’s famous Bakarwadi to global markets.

Eka Global’s Longevity Packaging technology for high barrier thermoformed containers consists of multilayer structures of PP and special three layers of EVOH that plays a very vital role in the increasing shelf life of products. Our packaging protects the food from moisture and oxygen, while inhibiting microbial growth to provide safety & hygiene. High barrier property of our lid film supports in extending the shelf life along with easy peel technology.
